Step by step instructions for updating Pacer’s firmware.

Firmware Update Instructions: Windows

You will find the firmware updater and the latest firmware file included with the DAW integration installer. If you don’t plan to use Pacer with a DAW you can download them here: Pacer_Firmware_Win

  1. Connect Pacer to your computer and set the power switch to off.
  2. Start Pacer in update mode. To do so:
    • Hold down Stomp Switch [1] (bottom left Stomp Switch) while turning its power switch to On.
    • Pacer’s display should now say ‘FWUPD’ with three dots along the bottom.
  3. Start nkupdate.
  4. The firmware update app nkupdate, should now look like Image 1 showing ‘Nektar unit is connected…’. If Pacer is not detected, nkupdate will appear as shown in Image 2. In that case turn Pacer off, then follow the instructions at step 2 again.
  5. Press the ‘Load’ button in nkupdate.
  6. Find the file named ‘Pacer_FW_**.**.**.bin’ (where **.**.** represents the firmware version number). See Image 3.
  7. Select the firmware and click ‘Open’. The updater window will report ‘Correct firmware file Loaded’. See Image 4
  8. Click the ‘Program’ button to begin the update process. The LED dots at the bottom of Pacer’s display will begin to flash. Once complete, you should get the message ‘Programming and verification successful’. See Image 5.
  9. Close the firmware updater app.
  10. Turn Pacer Off, then back on again.

If this is the first time Pacer’s firmware has been updated, we recommend restoring the default settings. Please follow these steps:

  1. Set Pacer’s power switch to off.
  2. Turn the power switch to on, while holding the [Preset] stomp switch. The display should now say ‘G CFG’.
  3. Turn the data encoder to select ‘RESET’.
  4. Press the encoder button.

After Reset is complete Pacer will return to the top of the menu.

Firmware Update Instructions: OS X

You will find the firmware updater and the latest firmware file included with the DAW integration installer. If you don’t plan to use Pacer with a DAW you can download them here: Pacer_Firmware_OSX

  1. Connect Pacer to your computer and set the power switch to off.
  2. Start Pacer in update mode. To do so:
    • Hold down Stomp Switch [1] (labeled ‘Solo’) while turning its power switch to On.
    • Pacer’s display should now say ‘FWUPD’ with three dots along the bottom.
  3. Start nkupdate. If you are opening nkupdate for the first time, you will encounter the warning shown in Image 6.
  4. The firmware update app nkupdate, should now look like Image 7 showing ‘Nektar unit is connected…’. If Pacer is not detected, nkupdate will appear as shown in Image 8. In that case turn Pacer off, then follow the instructions at step 2 again.
  5. Press the ‘Load’ button in nkupdate. If Pacer appears to be detected but the ‘Load’ button is greyed out, close and then restart nkupdate.
  6. Find the file named ‘Pacer_FW_**.**.**.bin’ (where **.**.** represents the firmware version number). See Image 9. To locate the firmware file select ‘Downloads’ in the left panel of the file browser on the second right image below, then locate the downloaded package which contains nkupdate. The firmware will either be at the top level or in the folder named ‘Firmware’.
  7. Select the firmware and click ‘Open’. The updater window will report ‘Correct firmware file Loaded’. See Image 10
  8. Click ‘Program’ button to begin the update process. The LED dots at the bottom of Pacer’s display will begin to flash. Once complete, you should get the message ‘Programming and verification successful’. See Image 11.
  9. Close the firmware updater app.
  10. Turn Pacer Off, then back on again.
