Nektar Panorama Artist Story: Kraftwerk

End of May 2017, reclusive legendary German electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk are releasing a new project: A four disk Blu-Ray Box Set called “12345678”, delivering their catalogue as complete audio visual 3D experience on Blu Ray DVD – and the Panorama P1 was a part of this.

In cooperation with d&b audio, the band had installed 3D sound in many venues during their last world tour, to complement the show’s 3D visuals with matching 3D audio. Based on concert recordings made over the last four years, Kraftwerk now mixed the songs in true Dolby Atmos 3D sound.

TAKING MUSIC INTO THE THIRD DIMENSION

Supported by renowned 3D audio expert Tom Ammermann, Kraftwerk member Fritz Hilpert mixed the material in Steinberg’s Nuendo in combination with a Nektar Panorama P1 production controller. Thanks to its deep Nuendo and Cubase integration, the P1 provided him with tactile access to the mix parameters, speeding the process up significantly.

Tom Ammermann comments: “We have really pushed the limits of what has been done with 3 D sound up to now. We have taken the Dolby Atmos Array to its limits and used it extensively. Also, there has never been such an impressive Headphone Surround 3D mix – I am really excited about the release of this project.”

Kraftwerk’s 3D catalogue will be released on May 26th, 2017 and be available in Blu Ray, CD and Vinyl formats. The two latter versions feature Tom Ammermann’s special binaural headphone mixes, so surprisingly you will be getting a taste of 3D audio via conventional headphones even on vinyl.
